Chinese flowering quince
Native to China and Japan, the flowering quince (Chaenomeles speciosa) is a richly flowering, magnificent shrub that is highly recommended as a single plant or in groups. It also makes an excellent addition to a flowering hedge, as it enjoys great popularity due to its long flowering period.

Growth form
The shrub is medium-sized and can grow to over 2 meters tall, with an upright, spreading crown. The shoots, often covered with thorns when young, are arranged alternately and later become bare.
leaf and flower
The flowers, which can be scarlet, pink, or white depending on the variety, emit a phenomenal luminosity. The numerous broad, bowl-shaped blossoms open around March or April. The egg-shaped to elongated foliage, which is glossy green and sharply serrated, provides a good contrast. The apple-like fruits are yellowish or greenish, have an aromatic fragrance and are ideal for cooking.
Site requirements / maintenance measures
The undemanding ornamental quince thrives on virtually all permeable, moderately dry to fresh garden soils. It loves warm and sunny spots and is extremely easy to care for.
