Dahlias as cut flowers
Fortunately, dahlias are becoming increasingly common as cut flowers in florists. In the past, people were quite unjustified in their criticism of the short shelf life of dahlia flowers. If the dahlia grower pays attention to proper care immediately after cutting, the dahlia is in no way inferior to a rose or a gerbera in terms of longevity.

What to look out for
The most important prerequisites for longevity are the correct timing of cutting and direct watering of the flower stems. Dahlias should be cut when dewy, so to speak, early in the morning, before the heat of the sun weakens the plants. After cutting, the flowers should be immediately placed in a bucket of fresh water so that the cut surface does not dry out and thus impede water absorption. A hand's breadth of water in the bucket is sufficient, and the bucket is not too heavy for later transport. The most important thing is that the flowers have an opportunity to absorb water immediately. The bucket containing the cut flowers should be placed directly in the shade so that the sun does not further dehydrate the flowers, preventing them from replenishing quickly enough and thus initially appearing limp. The ripening time of a flower is also of great importance for the longevity of the dahlia blossom. It is better to cut the flower slightly immature, or unripe, than too wide open. Look at the center of the flower; this should be formed of closely spaced petals; then the dahlia has not yet opened too far. If the first stamens are already visible on double flowers, the flower is over-opened. Before processing, the dahlias should be allowed about an hour to absorb water so that they can survive any transport. Today, gardeners' transport systems are so sophisticated that the flowers are transported in special containers filled with water. There is hardly any interruption in the water supply. Adding a preservative to the water is also recommended. This prevents the rapid proliferation of putrefactive bacteria, which further impede water absorption.

Dahlia Coralie
'Coralie' is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after and beautiful dahlias on the market and enjoys great popularity on social media. Its cherry blossom pink color with subtle champagne tones makes Coralie a truly stunning highlight.
As one of the first varieties to fill the garden with its splendor in summer, 'Coralie' provides a veritable profusion of beautiful, delicate pink, medium-sized blooms throughout the season. The flowers sit atop long, sturdy stems, making them ideal for floral arrangements such as weddings. 'Coralie' is therefore not only a feast for the eyes but also extremely practical for floral arrangements and events.

In floristry
In floristry, dahlias can be used for any purpose. From extravagant, modern floral arrangements with single blooms to lush, colorful, country-style bouquets combined with other flowers and accessories, to table arrangements for festive occasions made from small pompom dahlias. Dahlias are also ideal for grave wreaths and coffin decorations. The possibilities are endless.
Dahlias in a vase
For gardeners, the dahlia is a rewarding cut flower because it continually produces new blooms – the more you cut, the more you bloom. This way, a vase filled with flowers can always brighten up a living room. And there are no limits to your imagination. For example, the beauty of a special vase can be further enhanced by a single dahlia blossom. Or a lush bouquet of dahlias of just one variety.
TIP
If you're planning to give dahlia bouquets as gifts, be sure to point out that the stems must be recut before placing them in a vase. Only then are the vascular pathways open and able to absorb water. Preservatives keep the water clean, and the dahlias last longer.
